Working Around Canada
If you intend to work around Canada and the conditions of your visa permit this, then work can often be found in the following industries:
Ski resorts - This work is seasonal and is usually casual in nature. If employers provide accommodation and food, this will be deducted from your wages. Job openings often include ski lift operators, ski instructors, hotel workers (cleaners, store workers, kitchen staff and so on), restaurant, and shop staff.
Fruit picking - This work is seasonal and casual in nature. It is hard work, so you must be physically fit to attempt fruit picking work. Areas popular for fruit picking include the Okanagan valley, British Columbia, and Ontario. Also, contact the Agricultural Employment Service (AES) for further information on harvest times and where jobs may be available.
Caregiving - Canada has very strict regulations regarding foreigners wishing to work as caregivers – the correct qualifications and significant work experience are a must. Persons working as caregivers are expected to be employed on a full-time basis by the families they are staying with. Meals and accommodation are usually provided, and caregivers can expect to be paid decent wages as well.
Bar/Waiting Work - Always a popular option for young backpackers and other foreign workers. Look at job listings on the boards of the hostels you are staying at, the job sections in local newspapers or simply take a proactive approach and go in to an establishment to ask for work in person.
