Places to Visit

Much of Canada’s wilderness is protected, and you will often be required to obtain Wilderness Passes (available from National Park Information Centers) to travel in these areas. Here are some ideas to get you started thinking about your trip:

When people think Canada, they often think Niagara Falls and for a good reason – this spectacular sight should be seen at least once in a person’s lifetime! Other outdoorsy adventures you can embark on include kayaking, water skiing, whitewater rafting and so on. Lake Louise and "cottage country" in Ontario are popular destinations for a range of watersports.

Banff is a popular destination and famed for its natural hot springs, open to the public. Other hot springs in the Rockies: Radium Hot Springs in Kootenay National Park, British Columbia and Miette Hot Springs in Jasper National Park, Alberta.

Canada’s Ski resorts are world-class; you might already recognize such famous names as Whistler and Big White (in British Columbia) and Mont Blanc (in Quebec). If you are a keen skier, check ski conditions before going to avoid disappointment.

Hiking (i.e. in the Rockies, the Donjek area etc.). Wildlife can include grizzly and black bears, wolves, foxes, wolverines, muskrat, mink, marmot and lynx. Therefore, it is recommended that you make lots of noise as you travel through the woods (to prevent surprising wildlife) and carry bear resistant sprays.
